The Dirty Vesper

To celebrate the birthday of the CIA (founded September 18, 1947), today’s cocktail recipe is an old espionage classic – the Dirty Vesper martini.  Inspired by James Bond’s cocktail of choice in Casino Royale (an icy blend of vodka, gin and Lillet, garnished with a peel of lemon and called a Vesper after his Bond Girl du jour), this is an updated, dirty take on that signature tipple.  And like any good spy, this drink has an alias – the Double O Dirty.

The Dirty Vesper (AKA The OODirty)

1.5 oz vodka (I like Blavod for an extra-dirty look, but any quality vodka will work)

1.5 oz London Dry gin

3/4 oz Noilly Prat dry vermouth

1/2 oz olive brine

1 large lemon peel

Stir vodka, gin, vermouth, and brine with ice, then strain into a cocktail glass.  Twist one large swath of lemon peel over cocktail to release oil and drop into glass.

Can’t wait to try this one. Have not had a lot of luck or skill with making a good martini, but will prevail!! Thanks!!

A good Martini is actually very simple, read my post on vermouth and try it again and again until either the Martini or you are just right.
